Arsenal leading the race to sign Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko
Arsenal are reportedly the ‘frontrunners’ to sign RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko this summer, as per the transfer journalist Ben Jacobs.
It is an open secret that following disappointing displays from Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah in the recently concluded season, the Gunners are keen on signing a new striker ahead of next term.
Numerous names have been mentioned as serious targets with Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak being among them, but Sesko is now emerging as the priority option.
After moving to the German side from Red Bull Salzburg last summer, Sesko enjoyed a productive campaign last term. So, Arsenal have seemingly decided to register their interest in signing him after being impressed by his recent displays.
Speaking on The Done Deal Show, Jacobs has reported that Arsenal are ‘pushing’ to sign the 21-year-old and they have currently placed themselves as the ‘frontrunners’ to get this deal done.
Sesko to Arsenal
However, the journalist states that Chelsea are also keen on signing him and they are ready to provide stiff competition for the Gunners in getting any potential deal done for him.
Jacobs said:
“Arsenal and Chelsea are the two clubs pushing and nobody is saying that Sesko won’t end up at Arsenal, just as a journalist we don’t bet based on the odds as of now, we wait and see how things transpire.
“It is definitely true to say that Arsenal are one of the frontrunners and in my personal opinion, taking the reporting away, it wouldn’t surprise me if Sesko ended up at Arsenal, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Chelsea tried to ruffle a few feathers.”
It has been suggested that Sesko has a £55m release clause in his current contract so Arsenal will have to splash a big fee to lure him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
The Leipzig star is currently deemed one of the best young strikers in the world so he could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to sign him to strengthen their attacking department this summer.
