Arsenal remain interested in signing Aston Villa ace Luiz
Arsenal reportedly remain keen on signing Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz this summer, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners hold a long-term interest in the Brazilian as they tried to purchase him a few years ago. But, Mikel Arteta’s side couldn’t manage to agree on a deal with the West Midlands club so a move didn’t materialise.
However, Arsenal are said to be keen on signing a new midfielder ahead of next season and Luiz has been mentioned as a serious option. But, it was thought that the Villans wouldn’t let their star man leave having secured their place in the Champions League next season.
So, it looked like Arsenal started exploring alternative options with Amadou Onana, Bruno Guimaraes and Martin Zubimendi being mentioned as serious targets.
However, writing in Daily Briefing, Romano has reported that Arsenal remain keen on signing Luiz and they could opt to formalise their interest in the upcoming window.
Luiz to Arsenal
The journalist further claims that Aston Villa could decide to cash-in on the South American due to FFP regulations and if that were to be the case then Arsenal could manage to secure his signature. However, Romano states that Arsenal haven’t made any concrete approach yet with Juventus also interested in signing him.
Romano wrote:
“[Douglas] Luiz has always been appreciated by Arsenal and he was close to joining them two years ago, so let’s see if they decide to return or not, though at the moment they are not actively working on this one.
“Still, Luiz looks like one to watch for Juve, Arsenal, and maybe other clubs too because for Villa, the Brazilian midfielder could be one to watch in terms of possible outgoings to stay in line with Financial Fair Play.”
Aston Villa reportedly value their star man at around £60m so Arsenal will have to splash a big fee to lure the midfielder to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Luiz is a technically gifted player and possesses the qualities to flourish in Mikel Arteta’s system. His partnership with Declan Rice would be a mouth-watering prospect for Arsenal if they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to sign the Aston Villa star in the upcoming transfer window to reinforce their engine room.
