Arsenal could ‘reignite interest’ in signing Joshua Zirkzee
Arsenal could reportedly look to ‘reignite interest’ in signing Bologna star Joshua Zirkzee this summer after suffering a major blow in pursuit of Benjamin Sesko, as per The Guardian.
The Gunners are prioritising strengthening their frontline by signing a new striker this summer. Numerous names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium with Sesko recently emerging as the primary option.
However, the Slovenian has now decided to remain at RB Leipzig so the North London club have been forced to explore alternative options.
According to the report by The Guardian, along with Sekso, Arsenal are interested in Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres but both are set to cost big so the North London club are unlikely to make a swoop for either of them this summer.
Therefore, the report states that Arsenal could ‘reignite interest’ in signing Zirkzee and Mikel Arteta’s side will have to splash a fee of around £34m for him as that is his release clause.
Zirkzee to Arsenal
However, The Guardian claims that AC Milan are also keen on signing him so the North London club will have to overcome stiff competition from the Serie A giants in getting any potential deal done for him.
Arsenal struggled with their striker situation during the first half of last season, but after Arteta decided to deploy Kai Havertz in the false nine position, they became a free-flowing goal-scoring team in the second half of the season.
Therefore, it is likely Arsenal will continue with the Garman as the centre-forward next season and that will allow Zirkzee time to settle down in his new surroundings if he joins the club this summer.
After coming through Bayern Munich’s youth system, the Dutchman decided to join Bologna to play regularly and develop his career. Upon moving to Renato Dall’Ara Stadium, the 23-year-old has burst onto the scene after displaying eye-catching performances for the Rossoblu last term.
Zirkzee has already showcased his qualities in the Italian top-flight and the North Londoners will be hoping that he will be able to replicate the same performances in the Premier League if he were to join the club.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal can eventually manage to secure his signature in the upcoming transfer window to reinforce their attacking department.
