Arsenal told £60m would be enough to sign Ivan Toney
Arsenal have been made aware that they can sign Brentford star Ivan Toney for a fee of around £60m this summer, as per TalkSPORT.
It is believed that the Englishman is set to leave the Gtech Community Stadium in this transfer window as despite entering the final year of his current contract, he hasn’t signed an extension with the Bees yet due to his desire to take the next step in his career.
With Arsenal considering signing a new striker this summer, it has been reported that Toney is on their wish-list. However, apart from the Englishman, several other names have also been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent times.
The Bees are said to be ready to cash-in on him in fear of losing him for free next year and according to the report by TalkSPORT, Brentford initially slapped a whopping £80m price tag on Toney’s head but they have now lowered their valuation and are ready to accept a fee of around £60m.
Although Thomas Frank’s side have reduced their price to help Toney get his big move, the £60m still looks pretty steep considering his current contract situation.
Toney to Arsenal
The report further claims that Arsenal previously held talks with the player’s representatives over a potential deal but they have now cooled down their interest in him.
TalkSPORT also states that Manchester United are interested in signing him and they could make a swoop over the coming weeks. So, it seems the Red Devils are a more likely destination for Toney than Arsenal.
Signing a Premier League proven player like Toney would be a shrewd decision to strengthen their attack if Arsenal purchase him. However, having decided not to make a move for him, it is going to be interesting to see who they eventually opt to purchase this summer.
It was previously reported that Benjamin Sesko was their primary target but he has decided to remain at RB Leipzig. So, Alexander Isak, Joshua Zirkzee, Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres are the remaining names that the North London club are reportedly looking at to strengthen their frontline.
