Arsenal have reportedly started working on a deal to sign Girona star Artem Dovbyk this summer, as per Diari de Girona.

The Catalan giants enjoyed a historic campaign last term, securing the Champions League football after finishing in the top-four. Following Girona’s excellent season, a few big clubs around Europe have already registered their interest in signing several of their players.

Bayer Leverkusen have already purchased Aleix García, while Manchester City – whose sister club is the Spanish side – have reportedly signed Savinho. Other than them, Miguel Gutierrez and Viktor Tsygankov have also been linked with a move away from the club in recent times.

Now, while citing and translating the print version of Diari de Girona, Sport Witness has reported that Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing Dovbyk and have already started working on this deal.

The report further claims that the Ukrainian has a release clause between £34m-£43m so Arsenal will have to splash a sizable amount of money to sign him.

Dovbyk to Arsenal

After joining Girona last summer, he became the highest scorer in La Liga last term, scoring 24 goals and registering eight assists in 36 La Liga appearances.

Arsenal are reportedly prioritising signing a new striker this summer and a plethora of names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent times. Alexander Isak, Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres have all been mentioned as serious targets however, all of them will cost big for Arsenal and therefore, Dovbyk will be an affordable option to reinforce their frontline.

The Ukrainian, standing at 6ft 3in tall, is an old-fashioned number nine. He is strong, good in the air, excellent in holding-up the play, efficient in taking penalties, can link-up the play and also has a poacher’s instinct inside the box.

The 26-year-old showcased his qualities in La Liga last term and the North Londoners will be hoping that he will be able to replicate the same performance in the Premier League should he joins the club.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually opt to secure Dovbyk’s signature in this transfer window to reinforce their attacking department.
