Arsenal are reportedly planning to make an official proposal to sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi this summer, as per Caught Offside.

Having ranked through Chelsea’s youth system, the 23-year-old has flourished in his career after joining the Eagles back in 2021. Following his promising performances in the Premier League, he has now secured his place in Gareth Southgate’s England national team and amid Harry Maguire’s injury absence, he is now the Three Lions’ first-choice option at the back in the ongoing European Championship.

He started England’s game against Serbia in this competition on Sunday and displayed a solid performance, helping his side keep a clean-sheet. So, it seems after being impressed by his recent displays, Arsenal have registered their interest in signing him.

According to the report by Caught Offside, the Gunners are planning to ramp up their efforts to sign Guehi and an ‘opening bid’ could be submitted soon to get this deal done.

The report further claims that Crystal Palace value their star man at around £50m but Arsenal don’t want to spend that much as they are hoping to seal the deal for a lower fee.

Caught Offside states that with Guehi currently out with England in Germany, it is unlikely Arsenal will be able to secure his signature anytime soon, but the player is open to leaving Selhurst Park to take the next step in his career.

However, the report says that Newcastle United are also ‘keen’ on signing him and are ready to provide tough competition for Arsenal in getting any potential deal done for him this summer.

The 23-year-old is quick, strong, excellent with the ball at his feet, efficient in defensive contributions and also reads the game well. He isn’t as tall as other centre-backs in the Premier League, however, he doesn’t look uncomfortable at all because of that.

So, Guehi could be an excellent acquisition for the North London club if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Mikel Arteta’s side eventually opt to sign him in this transfer window to reinforce their defensive department.
