Arsenal ‘close’ to signing Sporting star Viktor Gyokeres
Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres this summer, as per the Portuguese outlet Leonino.
Having narrowly missed out on winning the league title last campaign, the Gunners are reportedly planning to reinforce the squad this summer to close the gap with Manchester City.
The North London club are said to be prioritising strengthening two positions with the midfield being among those but purchasing a new prolific goal-scorer is also on their wish-list.
A plethora of strikers have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the last few weeks with Victor Osimhen, Alexander Isak and Joshua Zirkzee being among them, but Gyokeres is now emerging as the primary option.
According to the report by Leonino, Arsenal have already agreed on a deal in principle with Sporting to get the deal done after recently opening talks with them.
Gyokeres to Arsenal
The report further claims that the North London club won’t be matching the striker’s £86m release clause as they have agreed to pay a £77m fixed fee plus bonuses which could raise to £101m. So, the numbers are looking really large.
Leonino also states that Arsenal are ‘close’ to getting the deal done and everything could be finalised before the end of this month.
Gyokeres enjoyed a stellar campaign last term, scoring 43 goals and registering 15 assists in 50 appearances in all competitions. So, it seems having been impressed by his displays, Arsenal have decided to make a swoop to sign him.
The 26-year-old is quick, strong, good in the air, has the ability to link-up the play and also has the poacher’s instinct inside the box. Additionally, he can hold-up the play, is efficient in creating chances for fellow attackers and also works extremely hard without possession.
So, he could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually sign the Swedish international in this transfer window to reinforce their attacking department.
Gyokeres has recently undergone knee surgery after sustaining an injury, so Arsenal need to be careful about that before getting any potential deal done for him.
