Arsenal can sign Victor Osimhen in a discount deal
Arsenal can reportedly sign Napoli ace Victor Osimhen in a discount deal this summer, as per the Italian outlet Calciomercato.
The North London club are said to be prioritising strengthening their frontline by signing a new prolific goal-scorer ahead of next season. Benjamin Sesko was seemingly their primary target and it was even reported that they held talks with the player’s representatives over a potential deal.
However, the Slovenian has decided to remain at RB Leipzig so the Gunners have been forced to explore alternative options. Osimhen has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the last few months and they could now look to sign him this summer.
According to the report by Calciomercato, Osimhen has a £127m release clause in his current contract but no club is willing to spend that much to sign him so the player doesn’t have any concrete proposal at the moment.
Therefore, the report states that Napoli have now decided to lower their valuation and are ready to accept a fee of around £85m. So, Arsenal can get a £42m discount to sign the Nigerian should they make a move for him over the coming weeks.
Osimhen to Arsenal
The Italian outlet claims that Osimhen is willing to move to the Premier League this summer, therefore, the Gunners can manage to persuade him to join.
Although the Azzurri have decided to lower their asking price, the reported £85m fee still looks pretty steep for Arsenal. The Premier League club’s spending spree has been limited through the PSR rule so it is highly unlikely that Mikel Arteta’s side would be able to secure his signature by spending that much money.
The Nigerian is a highly talented striker and has already showcased his qualities in the Italian top-flight over the last few years. He is quick, strong, brilliant in the air, efficient in finishing off his chances and also works hard without possession.
So, he possesses the necessary attributes to flourish in the Premier League, therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to formalise their interest in signing him.
