Arsenal register interest in signing Riccardo Calafiori
Arsenal have reportedly registered their interest in signing Bologna star Riccardo Calafiori this summer, as per the Italian outlet TuttoSport.
After moving to the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara from FC Basel last summer, the 22-year-old enjoyed a stellar campaign in Serie A last term, guiding his team to qualify for the Champions League.
Following his impressive performances in the Italian top-flight, he has secured his place in Italy’s starting eleven and has displayed eye-catching performances for the Azzurri in the ongoing European Championship.
So, following his recent emergence, he has been attracting a lot of attention from several big clubs around Europe with Arsenal among those to have registered their interest.
According to the report by TuttoSport, Juventus are keen on signing Calafiori but Bologna don’t want to let their star man leave unless they receive a substantial offer. However, the Bianconeri don’t have the financial muscle to sign him by spending big fees. So, the report says that the Bianconeri have now started looking at alternative options with Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior on their shortlist.
Calafiori to Arsenal
The Italian outlet states that Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing Calafiori and they can spend big for him this summer. However, TuttoSport reports that Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on purchasing him so the Gunners will have to overcome stiff competition from their arch-rivals in getting any potential deal done for him.
Bologna reportedly want at least £34m to sell their star man so Arsenal will have to splash a sizable amount of money to secure his signature.
Arsenal are reportedly exploring the market to sign a new left-back to reinforce their backline. A few names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium with Jorrel Hato, Miguel Gutierrez and Ferdi Kadioglu being among them, but Calafiori is now emerging as a serious option.
The Italian, standing at 6ft 2in tall, is quick, strong, good in the air, extremely comfortable with the ball at his feet, efficient in defensive contributions and also reads the game well.
Calafiori is a versatile player as he is comfortable playing in the centre-back position as well as in the left-back role. So, he would be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal if they purchase him this summer.
