Arsenal hold talks to sign Barcelona star Jules Kounde
Arsenal have reportedly held talks over a deal to sign Barcelona star Jules Kounde this summer, as per the Spanish journalist Gerard Romero.
After spending big money over the last few transfer windows, the Gunners have managed to build a squad that can challenge for the Premier League title.
The North London club mounted a title charge in the back-to-back seasons but couldn’t manage to go all the way in either campaign. So, it has been reported that Mikel Arteta’s side will look to spend big once again this summer to reach the next level.
The summer window has already been opened and clubs have started doing their business but Arsenal have seemingly decided to go slow.
However, it appears they have been laying the groundwork for their potential targets as they have been linked with numerous names over the last few weeks.
Kounde to Arsenal
Now, Romero has reported that Arsenal are keen on signing Kounde and have already opened talks with Barcelona to learn about the details of securing his signature.
The Blaugrana are reportedly in financial difficulties so they need to sell players to raise funds. But, Hansi Flick’s side are unlikely to let their star man leave for a discount deal with the Spanish giants demanding around £42m for Kounde.
The Barcelona star is a centre-back by traits but he has been playing in the right-back position for club and country over the last few years. He is quick, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back and is excellent in defensive contributions.
So, he could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, the Gunners are reportedly planning to sign a new defender to reinforce their left side of the backline but Kounde isn’t the ideal option to do that.
Therefore, the Gunners would be better off exploring other options to strengthen their intended area of the squad. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign the Frenchman in this transfer window to reinforce their defensive department.
