Arsenal are reportedly considering making a move to sign Bologna star Riccardo Calafiori this summer, as per the Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Despite mounting a title charge in the last two seasons, the Gunners were eventually pipped to the post by Manchester City on both occasions. So, it has been suggested that Mikel Arteta’s side will look to reinforce their squad in this transfer window to finally make the next step.

However, Arsenal have seemingly taken a slow approach to strengthening their team this summer. The window has already opened for a few weeks but the North London club haven’t signed anyone yet.

Nevertheless, things are expected to change over the coming weeks as Arsenal have seemingly already working on deals to purchase new faces.

Arteta is said to be looking to sign a new midfielder and striker but purchasing a new left-sided defender is also on his wish-list. A few names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the last few weeks with Calafiori emerging as a serious option.

Calafiori to Arsenal

Now according to the report by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Arsenal are keen on signing the Italian international and they could make a concrete approach over the coming days.

So, the report states although Bologna want to keep hold of their star man, the Rossoblu are in ‘danger’ of missing out on him this summer.

The Italian outlet claims that Bologna could demand a fee between £34m-£42m if they are forced to cash-in so Arsenal will have to splash a sizable amount of money to secure his signature.

However, La Gazzetta dello Sport says that Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are the other Premier League clubs showing an interest in him and including those teams Juventus are also keen on signing him.

Calafiori was busy playing in the European Championship but considering Italy has now been eliminated from the competition, that could help Arsenal get this deal done quickly.

The 22-year-old is a talented player and possesses the necessary attributes to flourish in Arteta’s system so he would be a shrewd signing for the North London club if they purchase him this summer.
