Arsenal register ‘clear interest’ in signing Calafiori
Arsenal have reportedly ‘shown clear interest’ in signing Bologna man Riccardo Calafiori this summer, as per the Italian outlet Tutto Juve.
The Gunners are said to be aiming to strengthen their squad in this window to challenge on all fronts next season. However, Mikel Arteta’s side have taken a laid-back approach this summer as they haven’t done any business yet.
Nevertheless, it has widely been suggested that Arsenal are prioritising signing a new prolific goal-scorer and a midfielder as a potential replacement for Thomas Partey – who has struggled with fitness problems in recent years.
In addition, the North London club are reportedly planning to sign a new defender to reinforce their backline. It appears they are contemplating bolstering the left side of the backline as they have been linked with a few left-footed defenders over the last few weeks.
Jorrel Hato and Miguel Gutierrez have been mentioned as potential targets but Calafiori is now starting to emerge as a new serious option.
Calafiori to Arsenal
According to the report by Tutto Juve, the Bologna star has been attracting a lot of attention from Premier League clubs with Arsenal showing ‘clear interest’ in signing him.
The Rossoblu are reportedly open to letting their star man leave this summer and want around £34m so the North London club will have to splash a sizable amount of money to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.
However, the report claims that purchasing Calafiori won’t be easy for the North London club as Liverpool and Chelsea are keen on signing him and Juventus are also interested in securing the defender’s signature.
The 22-year-old was busy playing for Italy in the European Championship, but the Azzurri have now been eliminated so Arsenal can now manage to get the deal done quickly.
The youngster is a centre-back by traits but is also comfortable playing in the left-back position. He is extremely comfortable with the ball at his feet and is also efficient in defensive contributions.
Therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
