Arsenal ‘willing to fight’ to sign Nico Williams this summer

Arsenal are reportedly ‘willing to fight’ to sign Athletic Bilbao ace Nico Williams this summer, as per the Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.

The Gunners already have Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka to deploy on the flanks and in addition, Gabriel Jesus can also provide cover as a winger if needed.

However, it appears the North London club are exploring the market to sign a new wide attacker in this transfer window to reinforce their attacking department. The Gunners have been linked with a few names in recent times but Williams is seemingly a serious option for them.

The 21-year-old has already established himself as a talismanic figure for Athletic Bilbao in recent times after ranking through the Spanish side’s youth system.

Having showcased his qualities in La Liga, the youngster has also started providing his worth on the international stage, displaying impressive performances for Spain in the European Championship.

Williams to Arsenal

According to the report by Mundo Deportivo, after being impressed by Williams’ recent eye-catching performances, several Premier League clubs have expressed their interest in signing him with Arsenal among those to have registered their interest.

Citing TEAMtalk as a source, the Spanish outlet states that the Gunners are planning to step up their efforts to sign Williams and are ready to trigger his £49m release clause.

However, Mundo Deportivo says that Liverpool and Chelsea are also keen on securing his signature, additionally, Barcelona are aiming to sign the Spaniard to bolster their frontline. So, Arsenal will have to overcome stiff competition from their rivals to get this deal done and they are ‘willing to fight’ for it.

Williams is an excellent player and possesses high potential so he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him this summer. Therefore, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium ahead of next season.

Arsenal are reportedly planning to reinforce several areas of the squad with midfield and the centre-forward being among those.
