Arsenal could sign Napoli star Victor Osimhen this summer
Arsenal could reportedly look to sign Napoli ace Victor Osimhen this summer, as per the transfer insider Dean Jones.
The Gunners struggled with their goal-scoring issues during the first part of last season, but after Mikel Arteta decided to deploy Kai Havertz in the false nine position, the North London club became a free-flowing goal-scoring team.
They eventually ended the season as the second-highest-scoring team in the Premier League just behind Manchester City. However, it has widely been suggested that Arsenal lack qualities in the centre-forward position so they need to sign a new prolific striker to finally beat the Citizens in the title race.
Arsenal have been linked with numerous names in recent weeks but they haven’t opted to make a concrete approach to sign anyone yet. Osimhen has been mentioned as one of the options and the Nigerian is said to be ready to leave Napoli this summer with the Premier League reportedly his preferred destination.
However, although Arsenal are interested in him, they haven’t opted to formalise their interest in him yet so there are doubts whether the North London club will eventually look to sign him to reinforce their attack.
Osimhen to Arsenal
However, speaking on Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, Jones has mentioned that he thinks Arsenal could still look to secure Osimhen’s signature this summer as the striker can offer guaranteed goals should he join the club.
The journalist further claims that Chelsea could be another team – who may attempt to sign him this summer, however, at the moment nothing has advanced yet and it looks like the striker will commence his pre-season with Napoli.
Jones said:
“I still can’t shake the feeling that Chelsea or Arsenal will go in for him. It’s such a big moment to let pass you by when you have guaranteed goals staring you in the face. Osimhen is that man, but it sounds like he will be starting pre-season at Napoli.”
Osimhen is a top-class forward and has already showcased his goal-scoring prowess in the Italian top-flight over the last few years. However, his recent injury problems and Napoli’s high valuation may have put off the English clubs from getting any potential deal done for him.
The Azzurri reportedly want around £85m for Osimhen and investing that much money to sign a player who has found it difficult to remain fit would be a huge gamble.
So, perhaps, this might be the reason behind Arsenal’s reluctance to make a concrete approach to sign the forward in this transfer window.
