Arsenal ‘in contact’ to sign Raphinha this summer
Arsenal have reportedly held talks over a deal to sign Barcelona star Raphinha this summer, as per a recent report.
Signing a new right-winger to support Bukayo Saka is a long-standing desire of Mikel Arteta and as a result, the Gunners have been linked with numerous wingers over the last few transfer windows.
Arsenal were interested in signing the Brazilian a couple of years ago but he was keen on moving to Camp Nou so he rejected a move to the Emirates Stadium.
After missing out on signing him, the Gunners have been linked with a plethora of attackers with Pedro Neto, Nico Williams and Johan Bakayoko being among them, but it seems Arsenal remain keen on signing Raphinha.
Having joined Barcelona, Raphinha hasn’t been able to flourish his career in the Spanish top-flight and even lost his place in the starting eleven to Lamine Yamal last season.
Raphinha to Arsenal
So, speculation surrounding his future has started to emerge in this transfer window and it has been reported that Barcelona could be open to cashing-in on him to raise funds amid their financial difficulties.
Now, according to a recent report in TEAMtalk(via Football London), Arsenal have already stepped up their efforts to sign Raphinha and the sporting director Edu Gasper has made ‘contact’ with Barcelona chief Deco to get the deal done.
The report further claims that the North London club have already submitted a proposal worth around £30m plus Eddie Nketiah in a part-exchange deal and Barcelona might be open to accepting the offer as they are searching for a new striker to support Robert Lewandowski next season.
In addition, Football London states that Arsenal are also interested in signing Joao Gomes from Wolverhampton Wanderers and following Brazil’s elimination from the Copa America, Arteta’s side could now manage to accelerate their efforts to sign the duo this summer.
The South American is a hard-working winger and has already showcased his qualities in the Premier League so he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to secure his signature in this transfer window to reinforce their frontline.
