Arsenal reportedly still want to re-sign Bayern Munich star Serge Gnabry, as per the German football expert Christian Falk.

After coming through the Hale End academy, the 28-year-old never managed to find his feet in the Premier League. He went out on loan to West Bromwich Albion before permanently moving to Werder Bremen.

After showcasing his qualities in the Bundesliga, the forward earned a move to Bayern Munich and has now established himself as a key player for the Bavarian club over the last few years.

However, he struggled with injury problems last term so he was out of action for a long time and as a result, he failed to secure his place in the German national team for the European Championship.

Now, speaking on the FC Bayern Insider Podcast, Falk has reported that although Arsenal sold him a few years ago, they still want to bring him back to the club.

Gnabry to Arsenal

However, the journalist states that Gnabry is reluctant to leave Bayern Munich and wants to prolong his stay at the Allianz Arena by signing an extension. So, Arsenal will have to work hard to persuade him to join should they formalise their interest over the coming weeks.

Falk said:

“We’ve heard that they were a bit offended when it was reported that they wanted to sell him. Arsenal were always interested and he doesn’t only say ‘no, I’m staying.’ But he also says why not extend my contract?”

Gnabry, valued at around £34m by Transfermarkt, still has two years left in his current contract, therefore, the North London club will have to splash a substantial amount of money to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.

Gnabry is a versatile player as he can play anywhere across the frontline and signing a player like him would definitely reinforce the Gunners attacking department.

However, the forward will turn 30 next year and spending big money to sign a player – who is approaching the wrong end of his career might not be the best piece of business if Arsenal were to sign him.

Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually decide to formalise their interest in signing him in this transfer window.
