Arsenal eyeing swoop to sign Joan Garcia this summer

By on July 19, 2024

Arsenal are reportedly considering signing Espanyol star Joan Garcia in this transfer window, as per TEAMtalk.

The Gunners have seemingly been hamstrung by the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules as after remaining quiet in the winter window, they haven’t made any major new signings so far this summer.

The North London club’s only business is making David Raya’s loan move permanent and additionally, they are closing in on a deal to sign young goalkeeper, Tommy Setford from Ajax Amsterdam.

It appears Arsenal are more focused on selling some stars to raise funds and after trimming down their squad, they could look to sign some new faces in the later stages of this window.

Mikel Arteta’s side have already let Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares leave, while Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith Rowe have been linked with a move away from the club.

Additionally, Eddie Nketiah is expected to be sold and Aaron Ramsdale could also look to leave to play regular first-team football having found himself on the periphery last season.

According to the report by TEAMtalk, Arsenal have identified Garcia as a serious option in-case they look to bolster the goalkeeping department before the end of this window.

The report further claims that the Gunners have been monitoring his current situation before making any potential swoop and he has a £21m release clause included in his current contract.

However, TEAMtalk states that Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid are also interested in securing his signature, therefore, Arsenal will have to overcome stiff competition from their rivals to get any potential deal done for him.

Garcia enjoyed a promising campaign in La Liga 2 last term, helping the Catalan side secure their top-flight status. The Spaniard, standing at 6ft 3in tall, is comfortable with the ball at his feet, is efficient in the air and is also an excellent shot-stopper.

So, the 23-year-old could be a good signing for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future if they purchase him. However, he has been called up to play for Spain in the Olympics and that could complicate the move.
