Arsenal to launch bid to sign Marc Guehi this summer
Arsenal are reportedly planning to launch a bid to sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi this summer, as per a recent report.
The Englishman has been in high demand having enjoyed a promising European Championship with England. He guided his country to reach the final of this competition before agonisingly losing to Spain.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old and additionally, Manchester United have also expressed their interest in securing his signature. However, it appears Arsenal are planning to beat their rivals in this race by submitting a creative proposal.
According to the report by The Sunday Sport(via Metro), the Eagles are demanding a fee of around £70m to let their star man leave but Arsenal are planning to submit a formal proposal by including Eddie Nketiah in a part-exchange deal to lower the South London club’s asking price.
Crystal Palace hold an interest in Nketiah, who has been mentioned as a serious target for Olympique de Marseille, so they could be open to accepting the Gunners’ offer should they launch it.
Guehi to Arsenal
The Crystal Palace star is quick, strong, comfortable playing out from the back, efficient in defensive contributions and also reads the game well. Guehi is a Premier League proven star and possesses the necessary attributes to become a top-class defender in future. Therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him before the end of this window.
However, the North London club already have a strong backline and are also closing in on a deal to sign Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna. So, they don’t need to sign a new centre-back unless they cash-in on any of the current options.
Arsenal reportedly want to sign a new midfielder and striker, additionally, Mikel Arteta seemingly also wants a new wide attacker as the Gunners have been linked with a few names in recent weeks.
So, Arsenal would be better off saving the money to reinforce other areas of the squad. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to secure Guehi’s signature over the coming weeks.
