Arsenal could submit bid to sign Victor Osimhen this summer
Arsenal could reportedly accelerate their efforts to sign Napoli star Victor Osimhen over the coming days, as per the Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
It initially looked like the Gunners would prioritise strengthening their frontline by purchasing a new prolific goal-scorer in this transfer window. Numerous names were linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium with Joshua Zirkzee, Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres being among them.
However, Arsenal haven’t opted to formalise their interest in signing any of them with Zirkzee already joined Manchester United. Osimhen was reportedly a target for the North London club but it appeared they cooled their interest in him.
Paris Saint-Germain have emerged as the favourite to sign him and it has been reported that the French giants have already persuaded the Nigerian to move to Parc des Princes. But they have found it difficult to agree on a deal in principle with Napoli over this deal.
Osimhen to Arsenal
However, Di Marzio has now reported that although the Gunners haven’t accelerated their efforts to sign Osimhen, they remain keen on purchasing him and could submit a formal proposal over the coming days to trump PSG in this race.
It has been reported that Osimhen has a release clause worth around £113m in his current contract and the Azzurri want his potential suitors to trigger it to let the striker leave. So, Arteta’s side will have to break the bank to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.
Osimhen has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world after showcasing his qualities for Napoli over the last few years. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to secure his signature to reinforce their attacking department.
Meanwhile, after making David Raya’s loan move permanent, Arsenal are closing in on a deal to purchase Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.
Therefore, having spent big money in the last two summer windows, it remains to be seen how much money Arsenal eventually splash this summer to reinforce their squad.
