Arsenal initiate ‘discussions’ to sign PSG ace Fabian Ruiz

By on July 26, 2024

Arsenal have reportedly ‘initiated discussions’ with Paris Saint-Germain over a deal to sign Fabian Ruiz this summer, as per the journalist Duncan Castles.

It has widely been reported that the Gunners are keen on signing a new midfielder in this transfer window to reinforce their engine room. Numerous names previously linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium but Mikel Merino has recently emerged as a serious option.

However, it now appears that Arsenal have also registered their interest in signing Merino’s compatriot, Ruiz. The Spaniard enjoyed a stellar European Championship, helping his country win the competition. He scored twice and registered as many assists in six appearances and was arguably one of the best players in this tournament.

Therefore, it seems having been impressed by his recent displays, Arsenal have expressed their intentions of securing his signature in this transfer window.

Ruiz to Arsenal

Now, speaking on The Transfers Podcast, Castles has reported that Arsenal have ‘initiated discussions’ with PSG to sign Ruiz and they are hoping to seal the move in an initial loan deal with the obligation to purchase him permanently next summer just like they did with David Raya.

The journalist further claims that Arsenal will have to sell one of their midfielders first before securing this deal and it has recently been reported that Arsenal are closing in on selling Emile Smith Rowe to Fulham.

Castles said:

“Arsenal have initiated discussions With PSG for Spain international midfielder Fabian Ruiz. He is 28 and under contract until 2027. He followed last season up with one of the exceptional performances at the European Championship. Perhaps the best player at that tournament for many observers, scoring twice and setting up two more goals.

“The discussions are dependent I am told on Arsenal moving a player out in midfield, it’s likely if they are to come to an agreement with PSG it will be structured the same way as the David Raya deal last summer with a loan with an obligation to buy one year later.”

Ruiz, valued at around £30m by Transfermarkt, is a technically gifted player and possesses the necessary attributes to flourish in Mikel Arteta’s system. So, he would be an excellent signing for Arsenal if they purchase him.
