Arsenal are reportedly planning to make an ambitious swoop to sign Manchester City star Julian Alvarez this summer, as per the Standard.

The Gunners are said to be looking to reinforce their frontline by signing a new prolific goal-scorer in this transfer window. Victor Osimhen, Ivan Toney and Viktor Gyokeres have all been suggested as potential targets but the Argentinian is now emerging as a serious option.

Alvarez has enjoyed great success at the Etihad Stadium after joining from River Plate back in 2022. However, he hasn’t been able to establish himself as a regular starter in Pep Guardiola’s starting eleven and it has been reported that he wants to play regular first-team football.

So, the 24-year-old is said to be open to leaving the Citizens and therefore, he has decided to turn down a new contract proposal from Man City, as per the Standard.

The report further claims that Mikel Arteta’s side have registered their interest in signing Alvarez and they could make a concrete approach to secure his signature before the end of this window.

Alvarez to Arsenal

It has been reported that Man City could demand a fee of around £77m to sell the South American, therefore the Gunners will have to splash a big fee to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.

However, the Standard says that Chelsea are also plotting a swoop for him so Arsenal will have to defeat their city rivals in this race to get this deal over the line.

Alvarez is a highly talented player and has already showcased his qualities at the highest level in recent years. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign him if he leaves Man City in this transfer window.

Meanwhile, Arteta has made it clear that he desperately wants to win the Premier League title next season after narrowly missing out on achieving that in the last two seasons.

The Emirates club have already purchased Riccardo Calafiori to bolster the squad in order to help Arteta achieve the main objective next season and are reportedly planning to reinforce the midfield department as well with Mikel Merino emerging as the primary option.
