Arsenal ‘prepared to bid’ to sign Viktor Gyokeres
Arsenal are reportedly ready to submit a formal offer to sign Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres this summer, as per Football Transfers.
The Gunners have started their transfer business late in this window but they are seemingly looking to step up their efforts in order to reinforce the squad before the start of next season.
They have already purchased Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna to bolster the backline and now they are said to be looking to sign a new midfielder with Mikel Merino emerging as the primary target.
However, Mikel Arteta reportedly also wants a new centre-forward and a plethora of strikers have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium with Gyokeres among them.
According to the report by Football Transfers, Arsenal have identified the Swedish international as the primary target to reinforce the attack and are ‘prepared to bid’ a formal £50m proposal to sign him.
Gyokeres to Arsenal
The report says Gyokeres has a £84m release clause in his current contract but the Lions are ready to lower their asking price and are open to accepting an offer of around £60m. So, this is a huge boost for Arsenal in this deal as they have no intention of triggering the clause.
After moving to Jose Alvalade Stadium from Coventry City last summer, the 26-year-old enjoyed a stellar campaign last term, scoring 43 goals and registering 15 assists in 50 appearances in all competitions.
So, having showcased his qualities for Sporting, the forward has attracted a lot of attention from several big clubs around Europe with Arsenal among those to have registered their interest.
Gyokeres is quick, strong, good in the air, efficient in hold-up the play, possesses the poacher’s instinct inside the box, can link-up the play and also works extremely hard without possession.
The forward has already showcased his qualities in the Portuguese top-flight last term and the North Londoners will be hoping that he will be able to replicate the same performance in the Premier League if he were to join this summer.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually manage to secure his signature in this transfer window to reinforce their frontline.
