Arsenal reach ‘agreement’ to sign Viktor Gyokeres
Arsenal have reportedly reached an ‘agreement’ to sign Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres this summer, as per the Spanish outlet Fichajes.
Following a slow start to this transfer window, the Gunners have accelerated their efforts to strengthen their squad and are now seemingly close to bolstering all of their intended areas before the start of next season.
It has been reported that Mikel Arteta wants to add reinforcements in the backline, midfield department and attack and the North London club have already signed Riccardo Calafiori to beef up the defence.
After securing the Italian’s signature, Arsenal are focusing on the engine room and are reportedly working on a deal to sign Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad.
However, it appears Arsenal are simultaneously working on a deal to sign Gyokeres to reinforce the attacking department as according to the report by Fichajes, Arteta’s side have already reached an ‘agreement’ with the player regarding the personal terms.
Gyokeres to Arsenal
However, the report says that purchasing the Swedish international won’t be straightforward for Arsenal as Sporting want a fee of around £67m for their star man and won’t accept anything less than that.
Arsenal currently have Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah as the specialist centre-forward options. However, Kai Havertz has become a key player in Arteta’s system in the false nine role last term after joining from Chelsea last summer.
The Spanish boss is reportedly ready to let Nketiah leave the club and wants a prolific goal-scorer to replace him. The Emirates club have been in discussion with Olympique de Marseille to sell him.
Gyokeres showcased his goal-scoring prowess last season, scoring 43 goals and registering 15 assists in 50 appearances in all competitions.
Therefore, Arsenal fans will be hoping that the 26-year-old will be able to replicate the same performance in the Premier League if he eventually moves to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Gyokeres is a highly talented player and could be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually manage to secure his signature in this transfer window to bolster the frontline.
