Arsenal submit bid to sign Fenerbahce star Ferdi Kadioglu
Arsenal have reportedly submitted a formal proposal to sign Fenerbahce star Ferdi Kadioglu this summer, as per the Turkish outlet Nutuk.
The Gunners have already signed Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna to bolster the backline but are also in talks with Real Sociedad to secure Mikel Merino’s signature to reinforce the engine room.
Additionally, it has been suggested that Arsenal want a new striker and they have been linked with a host of options over the last few weeks with Viktor Gyokeres being among them.
However, it appears despite purchasing Calafiori, Mikel Arteta wants to add another defensive option before the end of this window and have now earmarked Kadioglu as a serious option.
According to the report by Nutuk, the North London club have already submitted a £17m proposal to sign the 24-year-old but Fenerbahce have rejected it as they don’t want to let their star man leave for anything less than £30m.
Kadioglu to Arsenal
So, it now remains to be seen whether Arteta’s side eventually opt to return with an improved proposal before the end of this window to secure the defender’s signature.
The Turkish outlet states that Borussia Dortmund have also made a proposal similar to the North London club and they have also been made aware of Fenerbahce’s stance. Therefore, Arsenal will have to overcome the German giants’ challenge to sign Kadioglu.
The defender has attracted the attention of a few big clubs around Europe after displaying his qualities in the Turkish Super Lig last term. Moreover, he helped Turkiye reach the quarter-final of the European Championship before losing to the Netherlands, playing every match for his country in this competition.
Kadioglu is a versatile player as he can also play in both fullback positions. He is a talented player and could be a good signing for Arsenal if they purchase him.
However, having recently purchased Calafiori, the Emirates club are well-resourced in their backline. Therefore, they don’t need to invest more to add depth in this position so they would be better off saving the money to reinforce other areas of the squad.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually opt to sign Kadioglu before the end of this transfer window.
