Arsenal considering signing Joan Garcia this summer
Arsenal are reportedly considering signing Espanyol star Joan Garcia before the end of this window, as per the transfer expert David Ornstein.
After making David Raya’s loan move permanent, the Gunners have purchased Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna to strengthen the squad in this transfer window.
Additionally, the North London club are also keen on signing a new midfielder and have been working on purchasing Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino.
Arsenal are said to be seeking a new prolific striker as well before the deadline and have been linked with a few names over the last few weeks.
However, the goalkeeping department is another area where movement is expected to happen over the coming days as Aaron Ramsdale could leave the club having found himself on the periphery following Raya’s arrival last summer.
Garcia to Arsenal
Writing on The Athletic, Ornstein has reported that Ajax Amsterdam have registered their interest in signing the Englishman and have already submitted a loan offer to hire him. But, Arsenal have rejected it as they will only sanction his departure permanently.
The journalist further claims that Ajax haven’t cooled their interest in him and are ‘optimistic’ they’ll be able to sign Ramsdale before the end of this window.
Ornstein also states that Arsenal have identified Garcia as the primary option to replace the former Sheffield United star if he eventually leaves over the coming days.
After starting as the backup option, the 23-year-old established himself as a key player for the Catalan club during the second part of last season and helped his side secure the promotion.
He is comfortable with possession and is also an efficient shot-stopper. Additionally, the 6ft 3in tall man is excellent in the air so, he could be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future if they purchase him.
However, Garcia has a £21m release clause in his current contract so he would be an expensive option for Arsenal, considering he’ll be the backup for Raya should he join.
Therefore, it remains to be seen whether Ramsdale eventually leaves the club and whether Arsenal sign Garcia to replace him before the end of this window.
