Arsenal eye late swoop to sign Simon Adingra this summer
Arsenal are reportedly considering signing Brighton & Hove Albion star Simon Adingra late in this window, as per the transfer insider Dean Jones.
It has been widely reported that the Gunners want to strengthen the attacking department by signing a new prolific striker in this transfer window. So, they have been linked with a host of options over the last few weeks with Viktor Gyokeres, Alexander Isak and Ivan Toney being among them.
However, writing on GiveMeSport, Jones has reported that the North London club aren’t likely to go for any of them before the deadline and therefore, they could now ditch their pursuit of a new striker and could look to sign a wide attacker.
The journalist further claims that Arsenal have registered their interest in Adingra and they could formalise their interest over the coming days. However, the Seagulls star isn’t the only name on Mikel Arteta’s wish-list as Raphinha and Rodrygo are also on it.
The 22-year-old, valued at around £26m by Transfermarkt, has entered the final two years of his current contract so Brighton could cash in on him this summer to make the most profit out of his departure.
Adingra to Arsenal
However, the Seagulls usually play hardball to sell their star man and Arsenal previously experienced that during their pursuit of Ben White. So, it won’t be easy to secure his signature should they formalise their interest.
The Ivory Coast international enjoyed a stellar campaign last term, helping his country win the AFCON. He assisted both goals in the final to beat Nigeria.
The youngster is a versatile player as he can be deployed on both flanks and he has already showcased glimpses of his technical prowess in the Premier League.
Adingra is a talented player and could provide cover for Bukayo Saka if he eventually joins the club before the deadline. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign him.
Meanwhile, after finalizing David Raya’s loan move permanent, Arsenal have only signed Riccardo Calafiori in this window. They have been working to purchase Mikel Merino to bolster the midfield but haven’t been able to find an agreement with Real Sociedad over this deal yet.
