Arsenal remain interested in signing Victor Osimhen
Arsenal reportedly remain interested in signing Napoli star Victor Osimhen in this transfer window, as per a recent report.
It has been reported that the Gunners are keen on strengthening the frontline by signing a new prolific goal-scorer this summer. They have been linked with a plethora of names over the last few weeks with Osimhen being among them.
However, with the summer window set to slam shut in less than three weeks, Mikel Arteta’s side haven’t made a concrete approach to sign a new striker yet.
After signing Riccardo Calafiori, the North London club are seemingly looking to reinforce the midfield department as they have been heavily linked with Mikel Merino. So, after purchasing the Spaniard, Arsenal could focus on signing a new striker.
As per a recent Italian report (via London World), Arsenal remain interested in Osimhen and they have enquired about the details of signing him.
Osimhen to Arsenal
However, the report says that Chelsea are also plotting a swoop for him and additionally, PSG are in this race as well. Les Parsiens have already agreed on personal terms with him but haven’t been able to reach an agreement with the Azzurri over the transfer fee.
Osimhen reportedly has a £113m release clause in his current contract but it doesn’t look likely that Arsenal will try to sign him unless Napoli agree to do a deal for a lower fee.
The Nigerian is considered one of the best strikers in the world after showcasing his qualities in the Italian top-flight over the last few years, helping his side win the Scudetto a couple of years ago.
Therefore, Osimhen, whose current salary at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona is around £253,000-a-week, would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, the African has struggled with injury problems in recent years so Arteta’s side need to be very careful about that before making any potential swoop for him.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually decide to make a concrete approach to lure Osimhen to the Emirates Stadium before the end of this transfer window.
Meanwhile, Arsenal will commence their Premier League campaign against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon before taking on Aston Villa next weekend.
