Arsenal could make late swoop to sign Eberechi Eze
Arsenal could reportedly make a late swoop to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze this summer, as per the Express.
The 26-year-old has been attracting a lot of attention from several big English clubs after displaying his qualities in the Premier League last season. He helped the Eagles finish in the top half of the table, scoring 11 goals and registering four assists in 27 appearances.
Michael Olise was another player who played a key role in Crystal Palace’s impressive performances last term and following that, he has already made a big money move to Bayern Munich.
Now, citing Sky Sports as the source (the Express) has reported that following Olise’s departure, Crystal Palace have been exploring the market to sign a new attacker and have identified Arsenal star Eddie Nketiah as a serious option.
So, the report says that if Oliver Glasner’s side opt to step up their efforts to sign the forward then Arsenal could attempt to sign Eze in a part-exchange deal.
Eze to Arsenal
Eze has a £60m release clause in his current contract and Mikel Arteta’s side reportedly value Nketiah around £25m. So, Arsenal will have to spend £35m in cash and offer the striker in a swap deal to match the South London club’s valuation.
The former Queens Park Rangers star is a versatile player as he is an attacking midfielder by traits but can also play in the left-wing position. Additionally, he can provide cover in the box-to-box role if needed.
However, Arsenal already have enough resources in all three of those areas. So, although Eze is a top-class player and would bolster Arteta’s side should he join, they don’t need to spend big to purchase him.
Therefore, the North London club would be better off exploring options to strengthen other areas of the squad and they could do with signing a new striker.
However, it is going to be interesting to see the Emirates club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign the England international before the end of this transfer window.
Meanwhile, the Premier League is back and Arsenal will commence their campaign against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates Stadium tomorrow.
