Arsenal register interest in signing Ademola Lookman
Arsenal have reportedly registered their interest in signing Atalanta star Ademola Lookman, as per the journalist Graeme Bailey.
After moving to Gewiss Stadium from RB Leipzig back in 2022, the 26-year-old has established himself as a talismanic figure for La Dea over the last few years.
He enjoyed an excellent campaign last term, scoring 17 goals and registering 10 assists in 45 appearances in all competitions. He even guided his team to overcome more than six decades of trophy drought by winning the Europa League.
However, the forward is now likely to leave Atalanta before the end of this window and he was even left out of La Dea’s squad for their opening Serie A fixture against Lecce.
Now, on TBR Football, Bailey has reported that Arsenal have registered their interest in signing Lookman and they have been monitoring his current situation closely.
Lookman to Arsenal
However, the journalist says that Liverpool, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are also in this race with Les Parisiens showing the most concrete interest.
The Nigerian, valued at around £34m by Transfermarkt, still has two years left in his current contract so Atalanta are in a strong position to demand a big fee to let their star man leave.
The Italian side usually play hardball to sell their assets so the Gunners will have to splash a substantial amount of money to lure him to the Emirates Stadium should they formalise their interest.
Lookman is a technically sound player and is efficient in linking up the play. Moreover, he can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas so he possesses the necessary attributes to play in Mikel Arteta’s possession-based system.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to secure his signature before the end of this transfer window.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have started their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers. Now, Arteta’s side will travel to Villa Park to face off against Aston Villa next weekend. Arsenal lost in this fixture last season so they’ll be desperate to win this game.
