Arsenal ‘fully expected’ to sign Merino before deadline
Arsenal are ‘fully expected’ to sign Real Sociedad star Mikel Merino before the end of this transfer window, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
After purchasing Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna, the Gunners have been working on a deal to sign the Spaniard to bolster the engine room over the last few weeks.
However, considering this deal is taking so long, fans have become concerned about whether Merino will eventually join the club with the transfer deadline approaching quickly.
However, speaking on GiveMeSport, Romano has said that Arsenal fans don’t need to get worried about Merino as he is ‘fully expected’ to move to the Emirates Stadium before next week’s deadline.
The journalist says that Arsenal remain in negotiations with Real Sociedad over this deal and they are fixing the final details of the move at the moment.
Merino to Arsenal
He said:
“Merino just spoke the president of Real Sociedad confirming that Arsenal are in negotiation with Real Sociedad. He said, ‘as soon as the offer will be good, we will say yes’. But let me tell you again here, guys, don’t worry Arsenal fans, Merino is coming and is coming very soon.
“They are fixing the final details of the deal, but Mikel Merino is fully expected to become a new Arsenal player in the final 10 or 11 days of the summer transfer window.”
It has recently been reported that Real Sociedad want a fee of more than £34m to sell the 28-year-old but the North London club have submitted a £30m proposal including add-ons. La Real president Jokin Aperribay has reportedly arrived in London to finalise the move.
The midfielder was omitted from the Spanish side’s opening La Liga fixture against Rayo Vallecano last weekend ahead of the potential transfer.
Merino is a highly talented player and has showcased his qualities at Anoeta over the last few years. Additionally, he was impressive for Spain in the European Championship, helping his country win the competition.
Moreover, considering he already has experience playing in the Premier League during his time with Newcastle United, he should be able to hit the ground running straightaway upon moving to the Emirates Stadium over the coming days.
