Arsenal eye swoop to sign a new attacker before the deadline
After narrowly missing out on winning the Premier League title in back-to-back seasons, Arsenal have enjoyed a perfect start to this campaign to mount yet another title charge.
Having comfortably beaten Wolverhampton Wanderers in the opening fixture, the Gunners overcame Aston Villa’s challenge this weekend courtesy of Leandro Trossard and Thomas Partey’s strikes.
Mikel Arteta’s side lost both games against the Villans last term so they have now managed to take revenge for that. Arsenal have accumulated six points without conceding a goal and they will be hoping to build on that to finally win the league title this season.
Meanwhile, although the season has already started, the transfer window remains open and the Gunners are active in the market to hand Arteta the necessary tools to achieve success this season.
The North London club have so far signed Riccardo Calafiori to bolster the defence, while Mikel Merino is set to be their new acquisition to strengthen the midfield.
Arsenal could sign a new attacker
Now, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Arsenal could also look to sign a new attacker before Friday’s deadline but it is unlikely to be Nico Williams – who has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer – as he is set to remain at his boyhood club, Athletic Bilbao.
Romano said:
“The intention of Arsenal remains to add one more offensive player. I don’t think it’s going to be a player like Nico Williams. At the moment, this is described as unlikely as he intends to stay at Athletic Bilbao. But Arsenal will be one of the clubs to watch.”
It has previously been reported that Arsenal are keen on signing a new striker this summer. They have been linked with a host of options throughout this window with Ivan Toney, Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres being among them.
It is going to be interesting to see who the North London club eventually sign to strengthen the frontline before the end of this transfer window.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have also been busy trimming down their squad and have already sold Emile Smith Rowe. Additionally, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares have been loaned out with Fabio Vieira also set to return to FC Porto on loan.
