Arsenal could sign Viktor Gyokeres before the deadline
Arsenal could reportedly sign Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres before the end of this transfer window, as per a recent report.
It has widely been reported that the Gunners are keen on signing a new striker this summer. It initially looked like they prioritised purchasing Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig but following his decision to remain at the Red Bull Arena, Mikel Arteta’s side decided to shift their focus on strengthening other positions of the squad.
Riccardo Calafiori has been signed from Bologna to bolster the backline, while Mikel Merino is set to join to beef up the engine room. However, with the transfer window set to slam shut on Friday night, Arsenal are seemingly looking to reignite their focus on signing a new striker.
According to a recent Portuguese report (via The Sun), Sporting are ‘concerned’ that Arsenal could trigger Gyokeres’ £86m release clause to lure him to the Emirates Stadium before the deadline.
The 26-year-old has attracted the attention of several big clubs around Europe after displaying impressive performances for the Lions last term, scoring 43 goals and registering 15 assists in 50 appearances in all competitions.
Gyokeres to Arsenal
After that, he has enjoyed a stellar start to this season as well, scoring six goals and notching up three assists in four appearances in all competitions.
The Swedish international is a strong and quick centre-forward. Additionally, he is good in the air, efficient in finishing off his chances and also works extremely hard without possession.
Having already played for Coventry City, he has experience of playing in English football. So, the forward would be an excellent acquisition for the North London club if they purchase him late in this window.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are close to selling Eddie Nketiah. Initially, it appeared Nottingham Forest were going to be his next destination but the Reds are currently out of this race.
Now, Crystal Palace are pushing hard to lure the Englishman to Selhurst Park. Oliver Glasner’s side have reportedly already agreed on personal terms with the player and are getting closer to reaching an agreement with Mikel Arteta’s side over the transfer fee.
