Arsenal set to sign a new forward after sealing Merino deal
Arsenal are reportedly considering signing a new forward late in this window after securing Mikel Merino’s signature, as per The Sun.
The Gunners started their business this summer by making David Raya’s loan move permanent. Following that, they purchased yet another goalkeeper, Tommy Setford, from Ajax Amsterdam but the 18-year-old is a signing for the future.
Moreover, Mikel Arteta has decided to sign Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna in a £42m deal, while Merino has now joined the club in a £32m deal to add depth in the midfield department.
Amid this situation, the North London club have also been busy raising funds by selling some stars with Emile Smith Rowe joining Fulham for a £35m fee. Additionally, Eddie Nketiah is set to move to Crystal Palace for a £30m deal, add-ons included. Moreover, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Nuno Tavares and Fabio Vieira have left the club but they have moved away on loan deals.
Now, according to the report by The Sun, after sealing Merino’s signature, Arsenal will focus on signing a new forward before Friday’s deadline.
Arsenal to sign a new forward
A host of strikers have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the last few weeks with Ivan Toney, Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres being among them.
However, it is looking unlikely that the Gunners will make a move for Osimhen or Toney, while it remains to be seen whether they formalise their interest in signing the Swedish international.
It has recently been reported that Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton and given he has entered the final year of his current contract, he may leave over the coming days.
Meanwhile, it has been suggested that Arsenal may not look to sign a new striker, instead, they could attempt to purchase a new wide attacker.
So, it is going to be interesting to see who the North London club eventually opt to sign before the end of this transfer window to reinforce the frontline.
Having enjoyed a stellar start to this Premier League season, Arsenal will enter the international following a tough fixture against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.
