Arsenal eyeing late swoop to sign Brentford ace Ivan Toney
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a late swoop to sign Brentford star Ivan Toney before tomorrow’s deadline, as per the journalist Simon Phillips.
It was thought earlier in this window that the Gunners would prioritise strengthening the frontline by signing a new prolific striker this summer.
However, they haven’t opted to make a concrete approach to sign anyone yet. Instead, they have focused on strengthening other positions.
So, after making David Raya’s loan move permanent, Arsenal have signed Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna to bolster the defensive department. Following that, they have decided to sign Mikel Merino to reinforce the midfield.
Now, with Aaron Ramsdale edging closer to leaving the club, Arsenal are looking to sign a new goalkeeper to replace the Englishman and Espanyol’s Joan Garcia is on their radar.
Toney to Arsenal
However, Phillips has reported that Arsenal haven’t ditched their plan of signing a new striker and could still do that before the deadline with Toney a key target.
The journalist further claims that Arsenal are planning to make a concrete approach to sign him before tomorrow’s 11 pm deadline but he is on Chelsea’s wish list as well. Moreover, Saudi Arabian clubs are also considering purchasing him.
The 28-year-old was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium earlier this summer but it was reported that the North London club have cooled their interest in him. However, it appears they haven’t done that and remain keen on securing his signature.
He has entered the final year of his current contract and Brentford are ready to let him leave for a fee of around £40m.
Toney is a Premier League proven striker so he would be a great coup if Arsenal eventually sign him before tomorrow.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to secure his signature if he eventually leaves the Gtech Community Stadium.
Meanwhile, following back-to-back victories over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa, Arsenal will welcome Brighton and Hove Albion at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League this weekend.
