Arsenal in discussion to seal late deal for Raheem Sterling
Arsenal are reportedly in discussion over a potential swoop to sign Raheem Sterling before today’s 11 pm deadline, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have signed Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna and Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad to strengthen the defence and midfield in this window.
Moreover, they are closing in on a loan deal to sign AFC Bournemouth star Neto as a potential replacement for Aaron Ramsdale – who is set to join Southampton.
However, it appears the North London club are now contemplating making a swoop to sign a new attacker. Writing on X, Romano has reported that Arsenal have been offered the opportunity to sign Sterling and Mikel Arteta’s side are ‘discussing internally’ whether to make a swoop for him before the deadline.
Sterling to Arsenal
The journalist further claims that Chelsea are ready to let him leave as he isn’t on Enzo Maresca’s long-term plan and the player is exploring his options.
Romano wrote:
“Arsenal are discussing internally about Raheem Sterling as the opportunity has been offered again this morning. Chelsea want to find a solution for Raheem as he won’t be included in squad again if he stays, Enzo Maresca said. Sterling, assessing options to decide soon.”
It has been reported that Arsenal could look to secure his signature but they don’t want to spend any transfer fee or won’t offer a salary any more than £150,000-a-week – where the forward currently earns around £325,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge.
Sterling is a versatile forward as he can play on either flank so he could support Bukayo Saka should he join the club. Moreover, he already has experience of winning the Premier League and the North London club’s young squad don’t have that so, he could help Arsenal take the next step this season.
Sterling hasn’t had a great time at Chelsea in recent times but Arteta could manage to bring the best out of him as perhaps he knows the secret of that having already worked together at Manchester City.
Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to secure his signature before the deadline.
