Arsenal can sign Eberechi Eze for £68m next summer
Arsenal can reportedly sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze for a £68m fee next summer, as per the Daily Mail.
The 26-year-old attracted a lot of attention from several upper echelons of the Premier League this summer after displaying promising performances in the English top-flight last term, scoring 11 goals and registering four assists in 24 starts.
Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have been credited with an interest in him, while Arsenal also expressed their interest in signing him. But, no club eventually opted to make a concrete approach so a deal eventually didn’t materialise.
Now, the Daily Mail states that Eze has a release clause worth around £60m in guaranteed fee plus £8m in add-ons and the clause was active this summer.
But, no one opted to trigger it, however, the clause will become re-active next summer so Arsenal can sign the versatile forward at the end of this season by spending the reported money should they formalise their interest.
Eze to Arsenal
However, the report says Tottenham remain keen on signing him and Newcastle United are also in this race. Therefore, it won’t be straightforward for Arsenal to get the deal done.
Eze has become a talismanic figure for the South London club in recent times and additionally, he has also secured his place in the England squad.
The forward is comfortable playing in the left flank as well as in the number ten role. Moreover, he can provide cover in the box-to-box role if needed.
Eze is technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, is excellent in linking-up the play, is efficient in taking set-pieces and also has an eye for scoring goals from distance. Moreover, Danny Murphy previously stated that the forward is a Champions League level player and is an ‘unbelievable talent’.
The Englishman, who currently earns around £100,000-a-week in salary at Selhurst Park, has the necessary attributes to play in Mikel Arteta’s system so he sould be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they secure his signature.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign him next summer.
