Arsenal ‘explored’ move to sign Bryan Mbeumo this summer

By on September 6, 2024

Arsenal reportedly considered signing Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo this summer, as per the Daily Mail.

After joining the Bees from French side Troyes back in 2019, the Cameroonian has established himself as a key player for Thomas Frank’s side over the last few years.

Although the African has been a key figure for Brentford, he hasn’t got much spotlight due to the presence of Ivan Toney as he was the main man. However, following the Englishman’s departure to Saudi Arabia, Mbeumo could now take the Toney role as the talismanic figure at the club.

Now, the Daily Mail states that Arsenal were looking to sign a new forward this summer and ‘explored’ the possibility of signing the 25-year-old late in the window.

However, they eventually opted not to formalise their interest and instead ended up signing Raheem Sterling from Chelsea very late on deadline day on a season-long loan.

The report says Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman was also on the North London club’s radar but they eventually decided not to make a move for him.

The Cameroonian, valued at around £33.6m by Transfermarkt, has enjoyed a stellar start to this season, scoring three goals in as many games in the Premier League. He is a left-footed right-winger but is also capable of playing the second striker role.

The ‘incredible’ forward is quick, strong, efficient in taking set-pieces, clinical from the penalty spot, has the ability to finish off his chances, can create opportunities for fellow attackers and also works hard without possession.

Mbeumo would have been a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal to support Bukayo Saka had they purchased him. However, Sterling could also turn out to be a shrewd acquisition as he has experience of winning Premier League titles so he could help Mikel Arteta’s side take the next step this season.

Therefore, it is going to be interesting to see how the North London club perform this season and whether they can finally manage to win the league title.

Meanwhile, following the international break, Arsenal will have a tough run of fixtures as after taking on Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League next weekend, they will face off against Manchester City later this month.
