Arsenal register interest in signing Alphonso Davies

Arsenal have reportedly registered their interest in signing Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies, as per the transfer journalist Graeme Bailey.

The Gunners’ left-back position has been in a state of flux in recent times. Oleksandr Zinchenko established himself as the main player for Mikel Arteta’s side in this position after joining from Manchester City.

But, his frailties in defensive contributions have forced the Spanish boss to look for alternatives. Jakub Kiwior was signed and he played a few games last season but hasn’t been able to win Arteta’s trust.

Jurrien Timber has started a couple of games in the left-back position for Arsenal this season, while Takehiro Tomiyasu was used in this position previously but both of those players are more comfortable playing on the other side.

Riccardo Calafiori has joined the club from Bologna this summer and it is believed that he is the long-term option for Arsenal to address their left-back issues. But, he hasn’t started a game yet and it remains to be seen when Arteta starts using him regularly.

Davies to Arsenal

Now, reporting on HITC, Bailey has reported that Arsenal have registered their interest in signing Davies and they could make a concrete approach to secure his signature in 2025.

The Canadian has entered the final year of his current contract and hasn’t signed an extension with Bayern Munich yet, although the Bavarian club already submitted several proposals to keep him at the club.

The journalist says the Gunners aren’t the only English clubs eyeing a swoop for him as Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool are also in this race.

However, Real Madrid are currently the frontrunners to sign the defender and they are ready to agree on a pre-contract deal with him in January to hire him on a free transfer next summer.

Davies is a versatile player as he can play on the left side of defence as well as the wide attacker position. He is blistering quick, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, has the ability to create opportunities for attackers and is also efficient in defensive contributions.

The 23-year-old, valued at around £42m by Transfermarkt, is a top-class player and possesses high potential so he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him by defeating Real Madrid and other English clubs in this race.
