Arsenal ‘set their sights’ on signing Aurelien Tchouameni

By on September 12, 2024

Arsenal have reportedly ‘set their sights’ on signing Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni, as per a recent report.

The Gunners opted to strengthen the midfield department by signing Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad this summer. But, they eventually didn’t attempt to hire a new holding midfielder – which initially looked like they were willing to do.

Following an injury-plagued campaign last term, Thomas Partey’s time at the Emirates Stadium looked all but over as reports started to emerge that the North London club weren’t willing to keep faith in him due to his persistent fitness problems.

But, the Ghanaian has stayed at the club but with his current contract set to expire at the end of this season, Arsenal have seemingly started exploring options to strengthen the midfield.

As per a recent report in Spain (via Football365), Arsenal don’t want to renew Partey’s deal so they are planning to replace him in 2025 and ‘want to sign’ Tchouameni as Mikel Arteta is ‘in love’ with him.

However, the report says Real Madrid are keen on keeping hold of him with Fabrizio Romano saying that the player has no intention of leaving the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu just yet.

So, Arsenal will have to submit a lucrative proposal to Los Blancos and the midfielder to persuade them to change their stance.

The 24-year-old, valued at around £84m by Transfermarkt, still has four years left in his current contract. Moreover, the player, who currently earns £10.5m-a-year, could ask for a salary hike to move to the Emirates Stadium. Therefore, Arsenal will have to put together a huge financial package to complete this operation.

Tchouameni has been a key starter for Los Blancos in recent seasons and has already won multiple big silverware over the last few years after joining from AS Monaco.

He helped Real Madrid win the Champions League and La Liga last term. Moreover, the Frenchman helped his country reach the final of the World Cup a couple of years ago.

So, he has already showcased his qualities at the highest level and would be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal as a potential replacement for Partey if they purchase him.
