Arsenal considering signing Real Sociedad ace Zubimendi
Arsenal are reportedly considering making a move to sign Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi, as per TEAMtalk.
It was thought ahead of the summer window that the Gunners would look to sign a new holding midfielder this summer. However, they eventually opted not to do that and instead signed Mikel Merino – who is more of a box-to-box player.
Unfortunately, the Spaniard has now picked up an injury and as a result, his Arsenal debut has been pushed back a bit.
Now, TEAMtalk states that Arteta’s side could finally look to sign a new deep-lying playmaker next year as a potential long-term replacement for Thomas Partey.
The Ghanaian has entered the final year of his current contract and the North London club aren’t planning to offer him a new deal. Saudi Arabia could be the former Atletico Madrid man’s next destination as they are willing to hire him ahead of next season.
Zubimendi to Arsenal
The report says Arsenal have started exploring the market to sign a new midfielder and Zubimendi is on their radar. The midfielder has a £50m release clause in his current contract and Mikel Arteta’s side will have to trigger it to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.
The 25-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer but he eventually rejected it. The report now states that the midfielder regrets his decision to turn down the Merseyside club following La Real’s disappointing start to this season.
Zubimendi is a technically gifted player and possesses the necessary attributes to play in Arteta’s system. The Spain international has already showcased his qualities in a top league like La Liga so he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to secure his signature next year to strengthen the midfield department.
Along with Partey, Jorginho’s current contract will also expire at the end of this season and considering he will turn 33 later this year, Arsenal would be better off signing a younger midfielder to replace him as well at the end of this season.
