Arsenal predicted line-up against Bolton Wanderers
Arsenal will welcome League One side Bolton Wanderers in the EFL Cup third-round fixture at the Emirates Stadium tonight.
The Gunners will be coming into this game following a disappointing 2-2 draw against title rival Manchester City. Mikel Arteta’s side found themselves trailing early in this game courtesy of Erling Haaland’s precise finishing but they fought back brilliantly and turned the tide of the game by scoring twice before the interval.
However, the game completely turned on its head when Leandro Trossard was shown a red card in a controversial manner. Arsenal played the full second half with 10 men and almost salvaged all three points but conceded a late equaliser and eventually missed out on the chance of securing their place at the top of the table.
Arteta’s side will be looking to return to winning ways tonight by defeating Bolton before facing off against Leicester City in the Premier League next weekend.
Team news
Martin Odegaard is unavailable for selection in this fixture due to his ankle issue, while Takehiro Tomiyasu is set to remain sidelined with his injury problem.
Moreover, new signing Mikel Merino is unlikely to return just yet having fractured his shoulder in training so he would need to wait a bit more to make his debut for the club.
Oleksandr Zinchenko is another name struggling with an injury and isn’t in contention to feature in this encounter. Trossard was shown a red card last time out and as a result, he is suspended for this encounter, moreover, David Raya is in doubt.
Predicted line-up
Arteta is likely to make wholesale changes to his starting eleven in this encounter to give his key players a rest amid this busy run of fixtures. Therefore, Neto could make his debut for Arsenal.
William Saliba could continue at the heart of Arsenal’s defence and he might be paired up with Riccardo Calafiori – who scored a brilliant goal last time out. So, Gabriel Magalhaes would be given a breather in midweek.
Ben White might commence in the right-back position after starting on the bench last time out, while Jakub Kiwior should start on the opposite side. So, Jurrien Timber may get a rest after starting three consecutive games in seven days.
Jorginho is likely to be in the holding midfield position and alongside the veteran, Ethan Nwaneri and Declan Rice could complete the midfield trio for the North London club.
Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli are expected to be given a breather in midweek, therefore, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling would be the front three for the hosts tonight.
Predicted Arsenal line-up vs Bolton
Neto; White, Saliba, Calafiori, Kiwior; Jorginho, Rice, Nwaneri; Saka, Jesus, Sterling
