Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a swoop to sign Sevilla star Juanlu Sánchez next year, as per Caught Offside.

After narrowly missing out on winning the Premier League title in back-to-back seasons, the Gunners have started the new season promisingly and have been showing signs that they would be able to challenge for the title once again this season.

Mikel Arteta’s side are currently third in the league with 14 points from six games, sitting only one point behind the table topper Liverpool. They are still unbeaten and have scored 12 goals and conceded just five in the Premier League.

Now, it appears Arsenal have already started planning to strengthen the squad next year to continue fighting for big silverware. Caught Offside states that Arsenal have registered their interest in Juanlu and they have been monitoring his development in recent times.

The defender will enter the final year of his current deal next summer and he is open to leaving the Andalusian side ahead of next campaign. Sevilla are ready to let him leave the club if they fail to tie him down to a new deal over the coming months and would accept around £21m.

However, the report says purchasing the Spaniard won’t be straightforward for the North London club as Liverpool and West Ham United are also pondering signing him.

The 21-year-old is a right-back by traits but is also comfortable playing in midfield. He is comfortable with the ball at his feet, is good in the air and is efficient in defensive contributions.

He hasn’t been able to secure his place in Sevilla’s starting eleven yet and is used as a rotational player. The defender was in the Spain squad that won the Gold medal in the Olympics this summer.

Arsenal already have Jurrien Timber and Ben White to deploy in the right-back position. Therefore, they don’t need to invest more money in this area at the moment. But, if they see Juanlu as a midfield option then he might be a shrewd acquisition if they purchase him and having versatile players in the squad is always useful.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign the Spaniard next year.
