Arsenal interested in signing Girona star Miguel Gutierrez
Arsenal have reportedly registered their interest in signing Girona star Miguel Gutierrez, as per the transfer journalist Graeme Bailey.
Oleksandr Zinchenko was Mikel Arteta’s first-choice left-back following his arrival from Manchester City a few years ago and Jakub Kiwior was purchased to support the Ukrainian.
But while the Polish international has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League, Zinchenko’s frailties in defensive contributions forced the North London club to sign a new left-sided defender.
Riccardo Calafiori joined the club from Bologna this summer and he is now seemingly Arteta’s preferred option to deploy in the left-back position. Jurrien Timber has played in this position a few times but he is more comfortable in the right-back role.
Now, reporting on TBR Football, Bailey has stated that Arsenal are open to letting Kiwior leave the club and they could even sell him in the upcoming January window.
Gutierrez to Arsenal
The Gunners have identified Gutierrez as a serious option to reinforce the defence and they have been following his development closely before making a potential swoop in 2025.
The 23-year-old reportedly has a £30m release clause in his current contract and therefore, he wouldn’t be an expensive acquisition for Arsenal if they purchase him.
The Spaniard has showcased his qualities in La Liga in recent times after joining Girona from Real Madrid back in 2022. He helped his side finish in the top-four and qualify for the Champions League last term, scoring twice and registering seven assists in 35 league appearances.
In seven appearances in La Liga this campaign, Gutierrez has made one assist and kept three clean-sheets. He is technically sound, can play out from the back, has the ability to play the inverted role and is efficient going forward.
The youngster is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to become a top-class defender in future. Moreover, he has the necessary attributes to play in Arteta’s possession-based system.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to secure his signature next year to strengthen the defensive department.
