Arsenal register interest in signing Adam Wharton

By on October 2, 2024

Arsenal have reportedly expressed their interest in signing Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton, as per TEAMtalk.

The Gunners currently have Thomas Partey and Jorginho as the two options to deploy in the holding midfield position. Although Declan Rice is also an option for the number six position, Mikel Arteta generally prefers to deploy him in the box-to-box role.

Both Partey and Jorginho have entered the final year of their respective contracts and considering they have already entered their 30s, it would be the right decision to freshen up the midfield department by signing a new younger player.

According to the report by TEAMtalk, Arsenal have been following Wharton closely and they could make a concrete approach to purchase him next year. But, the North London club will have to splash a big fee to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.

Wharton to Arsenal

The report says that states that purchasing Wharton won’t be easy as Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Bayern Munich and Manchester City are also plotting a swoop for him.

The 20-year-old, valued at around £25m by Transfermarkt, has a contract until 2029 at Selhurst Park. The midfielder is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, has an eye for long-range passing and is also efficient in defensive contributions.

Wharton has already showcased his qualities in the Premier League and possesses the necessary attributes to play in Arteta’s possession-based style of football.

It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club can eventually manage to secure his signature by defeating the rivals in this race.

Meanwhile, the Emirates club have enjoyed a promising start to this season as they are currently unbeaten in all competitions. They have earned 14 points from six games in the Premier League, sitting only one point behind the league leaders Liverpool.

Arteta’s side have a favourable couple of fixtures on either side of the international break as they’ll take on Southampton before facing off against Bournemouth.

However, following that, Arsenal will face a tough run of games in the Premier League as they will take on Liverpool before travelling to St James’ Park and Stamford Bridge to face off against Newcastle United and Chelsea.
