Predicted Arsenal line-up against Southampton
Disciplinary wise Arsenal can be questioned a bit this season as they have already picked up two red cards in the Premier League in six games.
But, in terms of on-field display, the Gunners have been excellent thus far this term as they are currently only one point behind the league leaders Liverpool. Mikel Arteta’s side have accumulated 14 points from six matches.
Arsenal have also had a promising start in the Champions League after defeating Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium in midweek.
Now, the North London club will host newly promoted side Southampton in the Premier League today at 3 PM before the international break.
Team news
Arsenal have a few injury problems at the moment as Martin Odegaard remains sidelined with his ankle issue. Oleksandr Zinchenko has been unavailable for selection in recent weeks and is not expected to return before the international break.
Moreover, Jurrien Timber and Ben White are in doubt ahead of this game. But, the good news is that Takehiro Tomiyasu is very close to returning to action having been sidelined over the last few weeks with his injury issue.
Mikel Merino made his Arsenal debut in midweek after coming off the bench in the second half having recovered from his shoulder problem. So, he is available for this encounter.
Predicted line-up
Arteta is unlikely to make any changes to his starting eleven that won against PSG last time out. Therefore, David Raya would continue between the sticks for the hosts.
William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes are set to be the centre-back partnership for Arteta’s side. If both Timber and White can’t feature then Riccardo Calafiori could commence in the right-back position, while Jakub Kiwior could be on the opposite side.
Thomas Partey has been in fine form this season and he should continue in the defensive midfield position alongside Declan Rice. So, Mikel Merino may feature off the bench as he did last time out.
Leandro Trossard should be in the attacking midfield position amid Odegaard’s absence and in front of him, Kai Havertz is likely to be leading the line having scored in the last three consecutive games.
Bukayo Saka would be on the right flank, while Gabriel Martinelli is expected to be on the left. Therefore, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus would be among the substitutes.
Expected Arsenal line-up vs Southampton
Raya; Calafiori, Saliba, Gabriel, Kiwior; Rice, Partey; Saka, Trossard, Martinelli; Havertz
