Arsenal ‘preparing’ offer to sign Ajax star Jorrel Hato
Arsenal are reportedly ‘preparing’ to make a formal proposal to sign Ajax Amsterdam star Jorrel Hato, as per the Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The Gunners prioritised strengthening the left side of the backline this summer. They were linked with a few names with Hato being among them but they eventually opted to purchase Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.
However, Jakub Kiwior remains on the periphery and Oleksandr Zinchenko hasn’t been trusted to play in big matches in recent times due to his frailties in defensive contributions. So the North London club have now seemingly started looking at options once again to strengthen the left side of defence.
Fichajes states that Arsenal have ‘set their sights’ on signing Hato and are ready to ‘go all out’ to lure him to the Emirates Stadium. Moreover, they are ‘preparing’ to submit a formal proposal to get the deal done.
The 18-year-old, valued at around £25m by Transfermarkt, still has more than three and a half years left in his current contract. So, Ajax are in no rush to cash-in on their star man next year, therefore Arsenal will have to splash a big fee to lure him away from the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
Hato to Arsenal
Hato is a left-footed versatile defender as he is comfortable playing in the centre-back position as well as the left-back role. He has had a promising start to this season, scoring a goal and registering two assists in five Eredivisie appearances. Moreover, he has helped his side keep two clean-sheets.
Having showcased his qualities in the Dutch top-flight, he has secured his place in Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands squad. The youngster even started against Germany in the international break and displayed a promising performance, although he ended up on the losing side.
Hato is quick, technically sound, comfortable with the ball at his feet and is also efficient in defensive contributions. Mikel Arteta likes to have versatile players at his disposal and Hato would be an ideal option if Arsenal purchase him.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign the Netherlands international to bolster the defence next year.
