Arsenal eye move to sign Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a swoop to sign Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, as per the Spanish outlet Fichajes.
After joining the Azzurri from Dinamo Batumi back in 2022, the Georgian enjoyed a stellar debut campaign in Serie A, helping his side win the Scudetto.
Having guided Napoli to become the Italian Champions for the first time in over three decades, the 23-year-old was given the nickname of Kvaradona, comparing him to legend, Diego Armando Maradona – who helped the Azzurri win the Serie A title last time before this long drought.
However, Kvaratskhelia couldn’t manage to replicate the same performance for Napoli last season and as a result, they struggled, finishing in mid-table.
Now, the forward has started the new campaign promisingly under new manager Antonio Conte, scoring four goals and notching up two assists in eight league appearances.
Kvaratskhelia to Arsenal
Fichajes states that Arsenal have registered their interest in signing him and have been keeping a close eye on his performances. The player is open to joining the Gunners so they are currently the favourite to secure his signature.
However, the report says Liverpool are also in this race and the player is also ready to join the Merseyside club. Additionally, Manchester United and Chelsea are contemplating signing him as well. Therefore, Arsenal will have to overcome stiff competition to lure Kvaratskhelia to the Emirates Stadium.
The forward, valued at around £67m by Transfermarkt, has a contract until 2027 with Napoli so Conte’s side are in a strong position to demand a big fee to sell him.
The Georgian likes to play in the left-wing position but is also comfortable playing as the second striker. He is technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, has the ability to create opportunities for fellow attackers and can also finish off his chances.
Arsenal currently have Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard at their disposal to deploy in the left flank, moreover, Gabriel Jesus can also provide cover in this position if needed.
But, Martinelli hasn’t been at his best thus far this season so signing a new left-winger wouldn’t be a bad decision and if they purchase Kvaratskhelia then that would be a great coup.
