Arsenal make contact to sign Lille star Jonathan David
Arsenal have reportedly made contact over a deal to sign LOSC Lille star Jonathan David, as per a recent report.
After joining Les Dogues from KAA Gent back in 2020, the 24-year-old has showcased his goal-scoring prowess in the Ligue 1 over the years. He even helped his side win the league title in his debut campaign at Stade Pierre-Mauroy, beating Paris Saint-Germain in the race.
Now, he has enjoyed a stellar start to this season, scoring 11 goals in 10 starts in the Ligue 1 and Champions League. Moreover, he made four goal contributions in as many games in the qualifying stage of Europe’s elite club competition this season.
However, his existing contract with the French club will expire at the end of this season and he is reportedly not going to sign an extension. So, the Lille star would be able to agree on a pre-contract deal with foreign clubs in January.
Now, as per a recent report (via Tutto Juve), Arsenal are interested in signing David and have already made contact to enquire about the details of securing his service.

However, the report says that hiring the Canadian won’t be straightforward for the North London club as Liverpool, Manchester United and Juventus are also keen on signing him.
The Red Devils have already started making moves to get the deal done, while the Merseyside club have enquired to sign him. But, the report claims that the Bianconeri have a small advantage over the Premier League clubs in this race.
The forward is valued at around £37m by Transfermarkt and currently earns around £27,000-a-week in salary at Lille. So, Arsenal won’t have to spend much to get the deal done and they shouldn’t give up an opportunity like this.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his service next year.
Meanwhile, following back-to-back defeats in the Premier League and Champions League, Arsenal will travel to Stamford Bridge to take on city rivals Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday evening. So, they will be desperate to return to winning ways this weekend.
