Arsenal have reportedly registered their interest in signing Como star Nico Paz, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.

The 20-year-old joined Los Blancos’ youth system back in 2016 and after showcasing his qualities for the youth and reserve team, he was promoted to the first-team squad.

The Argentinian even made his senior debut for the Spanish giants last year. But, he never managed to find regular first-team football in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting eleven. So, Paz decided to leave Real Madrid and join Como in the summer to play regularly and develop his career.

Upon moving to Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium, the South American has enjoyed a promising start to this season, making four goal contributions in eight league starts.

Following his recent eye-catching performances, Paz was selected to play for Argentina in the last international break and he even made his debut against Bolivia in a World Cup qualifier fixture, providing an assist after coming on in the second half. The youngster has now once again been called up to play for his country in this November international break.

Paz to Arsenal

Fichajes states that Arsenal have registered their interest in signing Paz after being impressed by his recent displays and they could make a concrete approach next year.

The youngster – valued at around £12m by Transfermarkt – still has three and a half years left in his current contract. So, Como are likely to demand a sizable amount of money to let him leave the club next summer if they survive the relegation.

Following Fabio Vieira’s departure to FC Porto in the summer, Mikel Arteta has been left with Martin Odegaard as the only specialist attacking midfielder option.

Amid the Norwegian’s absence, Leandro Trossard has been playing in the number ten position over the last few games. But, he is more comfortable out wide.

Therefore, signing a new creative midfielder would be the right decision next year and if they purchase Paz then that would be a great coup.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually formalise their interest in hiring him to bolster the engine room.
