Arsenal plot swoop to sign Dortmund star Jamie Gittens
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a swoop to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Jamie Gittens, as per German football expert Florian Plettenberg.
Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard are the two left-sided attackers Mikel Arteta currently has at his disposal. The Brazilian started the new campaign as the first-choice option but he had a slow start to this season.
So, the Spanish boss has been using Trossard in the left flank more in recent times and he has scored in the last two consecutive games. But, he failed to find the back of the net in the previous nine successive games in all competitions for Arsenal.
Therefore, it is apparent that Arteta’s side need to upgrade this position to take the next step and finally win the Premier League title. Writing on X, Plettenberg states that Arsenal are interested in Gittens and they could make a concrete approach to secure his service.
The forward – who has a contract until 2028 – isn’t planning to leave the club at the moment but he wants to play in the Premier League in future so if Arsenal or any other club manage to persuade him to leave Signal Iduna Park then they will demand a whopping £83m to sell.
Gittens to Arsenal
The journalist says that apart from Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on hiring him so the Gunners will have to overcome stiff competition to get any potential deal done for him.
The 20-year-old has had a bright start to this season as he has made seven goal contributions in eight starts in the Bundesliga thus far this season. The Englishman even scored against Bayern Munich last weekend.
Gittens has also showcased his qualities in the Champions League, scoring four goals in as many starts. He netted against Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabéu earlier this season, although his side eventually lost the game 5-2.
The youngster has a tendency to make his mark in big games. He is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to become a top-class forward in future.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually formalise their interest in signing him to strengthen the frontline.
